BROOKS + BROOKS Gets a 'Living' Vibe

Friday, 09 November 2012 10:59

Elite London hair destination - Brooks + Brooks has just completed a fresh-face make-over, boasting an appealing living room vibe and compliment with the sweet smell of childhood!

Brooks + Brooks directors - Jamie Brooks and Sally Brooks are thrilled to bits for their salon make-over which is not only more attractive than ever, the space reminiscent of a relax, comfortable and cosy home. The hugely successful salon is as cosy and inviting as it is seriously professional.

We researched what today’s clients expect from a salon, what attracts them, what encourages them to return. High quality, fashionable hairdressing tops of the list, but family values, nostalgia and home comforts rank high too, as proven by the success of brands such as Cath Kidston and Nigella.

We know we offer the best hairdressing there is to be had in London, so we’ve refitted our salon to represent the core of family values and comfort - a place that feels like home and full of comforts,” explains Sally. “It’s warm, welcoming, with comfy armchairs, standard lamps, fragrant candles, the smell of coffee, sugary biscuits and nostalgic sweeties that remind you of childhood.

The salon’s two floors space spans across a 2,700 sq feet with 30 professionals working around, the Brooks picked SSG Designer Dan McNulty to create the new, home-like interior space for them. SSG is a multi-disciplinary design and production agency specialising in experiential events, retail and interiors. Dan’s brief was to create a new aesthetic direction for the salon, one that delivers a warm, luxurious, comfortable and relaxing interior, while retaining Brooks and Brooks’ polished and professional brand character.

The colour palette is warm, rustic, yet elegant with taupe, aubergine and rich cream for the new design, and along there are ‘pockets of theatre’ created with an eclectic mix of lighting and furniture so dramatic focal points draw clients into the salon. And to make a good use of the windowless lower ground floor was a challenge, and is now overcome by transforming it into a beautifully lit, mirrored oasis of calm, a chic destination for clients to relax away from the bustle of the outside world and the perfect area for clients wanting privacy. And to increase visibility into the lower ground floor, the stairwell’s existing low wall was removed and replaced with a more traditional, house-like open spindle balustrade.

The overall homey look is then completed with freestanding furniture pieces - chests of drawers, comfy chairs, standard lamps - sourced via various retailers to create a more relaxed, residential feel. “We utilised existing backwash stations and styling units, adding new footrests by Ceriotti to make the experience more comfortable. And we distinguished areas with Baroque-style focal points of bold graphics.

The project was overseen by SSG’s in-house project management team, and the renovation was undertaken in four phases to ensure the business remained open and was completed in ten weeks, and costs £120K.
