Natural Reds Really Can Go Pink!

Tuesday, 19 January 2021 10:23

Pink hair is most definitely hot right now, with celebrities such as Madonna, Fern Cotton and Dua Lipa embracing the trend. But can pink hair work for all? Tim Scott-Wright shows how natural red heads can embrace the trend for pink hair.

Tim Scott-Wright, owner of Tim Scott-Wright @ The Hair Surgery demonstrates how natural red heads can achieve a beautiful pink hair colour too. In his latest collection, Globally Blonde, Tim created a stunning rose gold, pink hue on a natural red head. The shot is called Irish Blonde and is a playful nod to the Irish red head with the curly flowing locks. Here’s how he did it.

“Using a combination of bleach and highlight in the right places won’t alter the beauty of the natural hair. If you just used the bleach to lighten on its own, it would have lightened too much; the pink wash after sits over the copper gold base, achieving a beautiful rose gold," explains Tim. “I started by sectioning in a traditional four section cross section, working from the back to the crown area using a combination of backcombing balayage, but also fine weaves. This gave a completely natural feel to the hair and I worked where I felt the hair needed to be lighter. For example, I used bleach around the hairline nape area, then used more bleach internally where I felt the natural density of the hair needed lifting.

“Coming round to the sides and front of the hair, I used a combination of baby lights and balayage. I took really fine lights close to the roots to create a halo of light around the face. Afterwards I then rinsed and used Schwarzkopf Professional BLONDME Keratin Restore Intense Care Bonding Potion to seal the hair and make it feel amazing. Following this, I mixed a combination of pink Schwarzkopf Professional Chroma ID and 0-00 to dilute. You add the pink to the 0-00 until you visually see the desired shade. I didn’t want anything brighter than a pastel/dusty pink. This was applied all over the hair and left for 20 minutes. The lighter parts from the balayage process developed to a lighter baby pink whilst the warmer part gave a stunning rose gold finish.”

A title he successfully went on to defend three years running, placing Tim as one of the youngest hairdressers to be inducted into the British Hairdressing Hall of Fame. His salon, Tim Scott-Wright @ The Hair Surgery has also picked up several awards.
