Project X Students Kick-Off 2013

Tuesday, 29 January 2013 23:51

Brand new Project X Class of 2013 masterminded by The Fellowship for British Hairdressing, assembled this month for their first taste of the course with a presentation skills master class and mentoring day with project leader and presentation specialists Debbie G.

Project X is a one-year education course organised by The Fellowship and is renowned as hairdressing’s ultimate finishing school. Students from Project X can typically enjoy an extraordinary year of mentoring, shoots, education and stage time with some of the industry biggest names and specialists in cutting, session styling, presentation skills and branding

This season the course kicked off with Debbie explaining all about Project X year ahead and allowing the students to warm up with presenting moodboards on themselves, their career to date and their icons from the world of hair. Then the students went through an intense but fun workshop about professional presentation with Debbie providing all the tips, hints and advice on how to structure a presentation with real impact. And the students were working in groups, practising repeatedly to gain confidence and improve their skills.

By the end of the day the guys had really bonded, they were feeling much more skilled and confident at presenting and were high with excitement about their next session and the year ahead.” Debbie remarked on the day.

I was delighted to see the diversity of our students this year,” said Debbie, “There’s a great mix of young stylists just beginning their careers and other older hairdressers who’ve been working for up to 15 years. All of them share a passion for education and are so excited about what they will learn during the year ahead – not just from their mentors, but from each other too. That’s what makes Project X so special.

The next Project X day will be hosted by Zoe Irwin and Harriet Evans and will teach the students how to set themselves up as PR-savvy session stylists in order to take maximum advantage of their year ahead.

Project X mentors include: Mark Hayes, Zoe Irwin, the Bedhead team, Mahogany, Gary France, Toni&Guy, fashion historian Caroline Cox, branding expert Harriet Evans, and presenter & project leader Debbie G.
