Aveda Earth Month - Walk For Water

Wednesday, 02 May 2012 17:05

On Monday 23rd April, 180 people from across the Aveda network also attended by TV Presenter Lauren Laverne, braving the wettest recorded April and  completed a 5-mile walk in support of WATER AID.

Walk For Water - as part of the Aveda's Earth Month 2012, now in its 13th year with purposes to raise funding and awareness to help support organisations that directly affect environmental change. On this occasion, high spirited participants walked around London's canals including a stretch within sight of the new Olympic Stadium. The five-miles walk reflects the distance that many women and children in developing countries have to walk to get water up to six hours each day. Tragically, their time and effort goes on collecting water that is often dirty and unsafe.

The money raised will support WaterAid's projects in Nepal and Ethiopia, where the charity is working to provide clean water, sanitation and hygiene education for people live in poverty. The London Walk of many globally that will unite Aveda's salon professionals and customers to raise $4.5 million to protect clean water. Since 1999, the Aveda network has raised more than $22 million to help support environmental change and protection; and since 2006, $16 million of this amount has been earmarked for water-related causes.

This year, the UK has set itself a target of £150,000 to be raised through various sponsored climbs, bike rides and runs as well cake sales, tube station collections, an auction and a gala dinner. The eco-beauty brand Aveda are very grateful to anyone who has taken part in this month's activities.
