Charlie's 5 Star Treatment for Marie Curie Nurses

Monday, 20 March 2017 15:15

Huge respect goes to Perth hair supremo Charlie Taylor and her team, who were singled out for commendation in the Scottish Parliament recently  for offering complimentary makeovers to Marie Curie nurses as part of Charlie’s year-long celebration of 30 years in business.

Every month for the rest of the year, one Marie Curie nurse will be treated to a complete luxury makeover courtesy of the CT team as a way of thanking them for their work, tending to people with terminal illnesses. So far three nurses – Kaye Wiseman, Carolyn Watts and Lesley Middleton – have had the 5-star treatment. Charlie returned to her Scottish roots in 1987 after nearly five years in London working for top hairdresser Trevor Sorbie. Shortly after her return, she opened her own salon in Perth’s South Methven Street. Ten years later she opened a second salon in Perth Road, Dundee.

Alexander Steward, MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, put forward the motion, which also acknowledged the salon group’s ongoing charitable work, including its monthly fundraising nights held in the Dundee and Perth salons on behalf of various local charities.  Senior Nurse Kaye Wiseman from Brechin, who cares for people in their homes across Tayside and Forth Valley, was the first to accept the offer of a luxury makeover in January. “I was thrilled when my name was pulled out of the hat. It was such a treat and they looked after me so well from the moment I stepped into the salon,” said Kaye, who works out of the King’s Cross Hospital in Dundee. “It is so lovely of Charlie to involve us like this in her celebrations.”

Since opening her salon 30 years ago, Charlie has won numerous awards, been initiated into the elite British Hairdressing Hall of Fame and travelled the world performing, educating and judging awards. She has also nurtured young talent, with two of her Dundee team – Cat Hood and Lewis Scrimgeour, winning product giant Schwarzkopf’s Most Creative Colour award last year.

Men do not want to look beautiful, they want to look handsome. That means they don't want to wear pink clips while you're styling them -  and they'd rather face the mirror because they want to know what is going on with their look as it changes in front of them.
