Fellowship Image of the Year awards

Tuesday, 01 August 2017 15:01

The Fellowship Awards 2017 are in full swing, with nominations flying in and salons chancing their luck at a win. Amongst the hot competition is the Terry Calvert Image of the Year award, one of the most sought after wins.

Named after Terry Calvert, who during his Fellowship Presidency, championed the use of stunning, eye catching and beautiful hair images to promote quality British hairdressing. In his name, the Fellowship are looking for a single image that sums up creative excellence in hairdressing from one of their members.

Entering your best work for the Image of the Year award could not be easier – all you need to do is upload your image to your Instagram page, tagging in @fellowshiphair and using the hashtag #fellowshipimage17. The image must be creative and unique, whilst serving as inspiration for both clients and stylists. Anyone working in a Fellowship salon can enter their image but it must be their own work. Reasonable retouching and digital imaging is acceptable and the image must have been created in 2017 and be available for UK and international PR use by the Fellowship.

Last year’s worthy winner was Tracey Devine for Affinage with her widely loved, bold and colourful image that graced the pages of trade magazine’s everywhere, including the Fellowship magazine.
The deadline for uploading your image is 5pm on the 22nd of September 2017. After that, a panel of Fellowship members will shortlist the images and pick their semi-finalists. Good luck!

The Fellowship’s Colour Project & Project X teams recently came together for their finale night at the RUSH Academy in London, to put all they have learnt over 2017 into practice. It’s arguably the biggest event of the year for the teams, as they showcase their new-found talents, creativity and confidence to their friends, families, employers and peers.

With 22 team members presenting, backstage was a chaotic whirlwind of models, make-up artists, stylists, hairdressers and mentors Chris Williams and Kai Wan on hand to guide the teams through their prep. Every member brought something different with their model, but all were equally as unique and creative, with a myriad of bright colours techniques, big, bold shapes and textures of every kind.

Every year, all students receive a diploma to certify completion of the initiative, but two hard-working students are awarded the big prizes of the evening; Project X’s Umberto Giannini Student of the Year and the Colour Project’s Achiever of the Year.

Ryan Steedman from Percy & Reed was awarded Project X’s Umberto Giannini Student of the Year for his progress and dedication. “Being a part of this year’s Project X team was the one thing I wanted to achieve this year,” says Ryan, “To know that I have now completed it and on top of that, have been awarded Student of the Year blows my mind! I have learnt so much this year and my team have helped me to grow. I have become a stronger hairdresser and now have the confidence to believe in my own vision. I can’t wait for the future!

From the Colour Project, it was Nicola Dow from Urban Hair & Beauty who was awarded Achiever of the Year. “When my name was called out as the winner, I was in disbelief! I wasn’t expecting it, as every single member of the team has worked so hard this year. It’s been a fabulous year and I’ve loved learning to collaborate with other hairdressers on the same creative level and the collection we created was beautiful. I never thought at my age that I could say that I have trained with such big industry names, learning invaluable tips and techniques and making friends for life. I highly recommend any of the Fellowship initiatives to any hairdresser wanted to progress their career. It was a privilege to represent such a fantastic organisation!
