F.A.M.E. Team shoot with Hooker & Young

Wednesday, 27 September 2017 09:25

The Fellowship’s lucky F.A.M.E. Team headed up to Newcastle recently for a laidback and relaxed photoshoot with iconic hairdressing duo Hooker & Young at their beautiful home.

Gary and Michael, keen to give the F.A.M.E. Team a different kind of shoot experience, organized four local models, a clothes stylist, make-up artist and assistant, whilst Michael himself manned the camera to make good use of his photography skills. The idea behind the day was to put the competitiveness of hairdressing to one side and to work as a team. They helped each other along, all working as one on all four models as oppose to taking ownership of any one look.

The concept for the shoot was ‘Dark Romance’. The looks were feminine, beautiful and strong, with the models rocking ethereal, textured and beautiful hair, coupled with elegant styling and sultry make-up.

The team even had the chance to quiz Gary and Michael about their careers from start to finish, their highlights, their past collections and their top advice for making it to the top of your game. Gary and Michael showed the team a montage of their hair work, from across 25 years of success, sharing wonderful stories and industry tips along the way.

Team member Jordanna Cobella from Cobella Hair says, “We all left our day with Hooker & Young feeling so inspired, motivated and lucky to have experienced such a personal day in Newcastle with them. Thank you to the shoot team and of course to Gary and Michael who generously donated so much time and effort to us!”

“It was a real thrill to work with the F.A.M.E. Team. We’ve always had a passion for nurturing young talent and helping them achieve their goals so we certainly enjoyed the day as much as the team did!” say Gary and Michael.

The Fellowship’s Colour Project & Project X teams recently came together for their finale night at the RUSH Academy in London, to put all they have learnt over 2017 into practice. It’s arguably the biggest event of the year for the teams, as they showcase their new-found talents, creativity and confidence to their friends, families, employers and peers.

With 22 team members presenting, backstage was a chaotic whirlwind of models, make-up artists, stylists, hairdressers and mentors Chris Williams and Kai Wan on hand to guide the teams through their prep. Every member brought something different with their model, but all were equally as unique and creative, with a myriad of bright colours techniques, big, bold shapes and textures of every kind.

Every year, all students receive a diploma to certify completion of the initiative, but two hard-working students are awarded the big prizes of the evening; Project X’s Umberto Giannini Student of the Year and the Colour Project’s Achiever of the Year.

Ryan Steedman from Percy & Reed was awarded Project X’s Umberto Giannini Student of the Year for his progress and dedication. “Being a part of this year’s Project X team was the one thing I wanted to achieve this year,” says Ryan, “To know that I have now completed it and on top of that, have been awarded Student of the Year blows my mind! I have learnt so much this year and my team have helped me to grow. I have become a stronger hairdresser and now have the confidence to believe in my own vision. I can’t wait for the future!

From the Colour Project, it was Nicola Dow from Urban Hair & Beauty who was awarded Achiever of the Year. “When my name was called out as the winner, I was in disbelief! I wasn’t expecting it, as every single member of the team has worked so hard this year. It’s been a fabulous year and I’ve loved learning to collaborate with other hairdressers on the same creative level and the collection we created was beautiful. I never thought at my age that I could say that I have trained with such big industry names, learning invaluable tips and techniques and making friends for life. I highly recommend any of the Fellowship initiatives to any hairdresser wanted to progress their career. It was a privilege to represent such a fantastic organisation!
