Let it shine!

Thursday, 01 February 2018 14:14

Last year, Evie Scrowston stepped up to a year of education on behalf of the Fellowship and National Hairdressers Federation, and now she is ready to step down to make way for the next winner of the Step UP & SHINE Scholarship.

The Step Up and Shine scholarship is a joint project between the Fellowship and National Hairdressers Federation, created to nurture emerging talent in the industry. The education program was created in memory of hairdressing education legend, Christofer Mann, and seeks to award one talented UK hairdresser with a bespoke education package, mentoring and a year-long program to boost their skills and industry profile.

Applications for 2018’s Scholarship close on Friday this week and it could not be easier to get yours in. The Fellowship want to know a little bit about you and why you would be the perfect candidate for this incredible Scholarship. You’ll need to complete a short application explaining your hairdressing background and your ambitions, and then record a 60 second video to support your application telling us why you would love this opportunity. Post it to your Instagram page using the hashtag #stepupandshine18.

Evie was awarded the prestigious scholarship on President Night in May last year and says: “Hearing my name being called was incredible. It’s such an honour to be a part of this program. My boss told me about the scholarship and encouraged me to enter it. I never suspected to win, I just thought I’d see how I got on. It felt amazing to win – I was immediately really excited to make the most of the opportunity and take advantage of all the education on offer.”

Off the back of her success, Evie is hoping to put all of her new skills and knowledge to good use and enter the L’Oreal Color Trophy – as well as keeping up her creative skills to create the best hair she can, every day.

“If anyone is thinking of entering, I'd definitely recommend it,” says Evie. “It's such an amazing opportunity, you get to meet some of the best people in the industry and your hairdressing skills, barbering skills, knowledge and confidence will grow so much.”
