Fellowship Team Round-up

Monday, 23 April 2018 10:19

It’s been a wonderfully busy few months for the Fellowship; Members’ Night, the first Hair & Vision event in London, President’s Network and much more. All the while, the Fellowship’s four teams have been continuing their educational journeys, collaborating with a handful of the industry’s finest.

The F.A.M.E. Team have a few huge projects coming up later in the year and recently came together at Wella World Studios in London for an exciting day of prepping, researching and sharing each of their ideas. With only a few months to go before they jet off to Australia for Hair Expo, the team are working hard to build the perfect concept to bring to the stage. Expect big things, with promise of grunge, textures and inspirations through the ages.

The Colour Project’s latest education day was with none other than Edward Darley and the Sassoon Academy team to of course, talk all things colour. As one of the industry’s most renown colourists, Edward’s focus for the day was to get the team thinking in the Sassoon way, sharing the concept of Sassoon shape and balance. He also took the time to present to the team about colour perception, enlightening them about the ways in which colour can make the mind interpret a mood, depending on factors such as culture. The team found it so insightful, bringing an interesting new dimension to their work and thought processes.

Wigs were the hot topic for the Project X team, as they spent the day with Sam Burnett from Hare & Bone recently at the Alan d Academy in London. There’s no doubt that clients are becoming savvy to the idea that wigs are the best way to achieve the ultimate colour change, so hairdressers need to step up their game to finetune and improve their skills to meet demand. Sam spoke to the team about the ins and outs of wigs, sharing all his top tips and advice whilst showing them wigs he had created for shows and shoots in the past. One of the key parts to Sam’s session was to show the team how to complete a wig wrap, which he demonstrated on a model whilst explaining the foundations on how to master the technique. In the afternoon, the team had the chance to practice and spent the afternoon cutting and styling wigs themselves.

On the ClubStar Art Team agenda was a day with Michelle Griffin at her salon, Griffins in Barnt Green. She had planned a day themed around festival hair and hair extensions, as a hair extension expert herself. Getting down to business, Michelle showed the team how to use tape extensions in a fringe to add colour and texture, demonstrating how simple, quick and effective they can be if you are limited on what you can do to a model’s hair in a show or shoot situation. The afternoon was spent putting their new-found knowledge into practice on dolls heads, playing and experimenting with various tape extensions. Michelle also talked the team through her career so far, inspiring them with the story of how she has come full circle, now owning the salon that she first began her hairdressing career in.
