Project X Head Backstage

The Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Project X team recently styled hair for the Phase Eight fashion show in London.

A team of six stylists from the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Project X were recently invited to join the team styling hair backstage at the Phase Eight fashion show in London.

The show’s hair team was headed up by Ryan Steedman from Percy and Reed, who is a former Project X member and who was named Project X Student of the Year in 2017. It was his first time heading a show, and who better to support him than a selection of this year’s students?

The show, which took place at Kensington Royal Garden Hotel, saw models showcase the latest collection from British occasionwear retailer; Phase Eight. The look was a pretty, structured wave, worn in a side parting with a voluminous face-framing curled section.

On the day, the team arrived early to be briefed on the look by Ryan. He ran through a demonstration model, allowing all everyone to get to grips what was expected of them and how to create the style. Then, it was showtime, with each member of the team styling at least one model.

Sarah Roesli from Bloggs Salons in Bristol said: “I learnt a few little backstage tricks and it was also great to get insight into which products should be used for different effects and different hair types.”

“It’s been an other incredible day,” she adds. “And again I learnt so much. It was a brilliant chance for us to see what goes on behind the scenes at a fashion show.”

Since graduating from Project X in 2017 and being named Student of the Year, Ryan has gone on to enjoy an exciting and varied career. He has assisted his salon manager, Adam Reed, on shows including Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor, as well as events including Men’s Fashion Week and L’Oreal Colour Trophy.
