Breakthrough Team Xtra: Rising Stars of 2018

Wednesday, 14 November 2018 15:31

In partnership with L’Oréal Professionnel, TONI&GUY’s Breakthrough Team Xtra Programme is a year-long mentorship scheme that sees 12 rising stars come together to focus on their creative talents.

They get to participate in activities outside of the salon, such as creating their own photoshoot and working backstage at high profile events like London Fashion Week and London Fashion Week Men’s. As their year draws to a close, they also compete for the covetedBreakthrough Champions crown and pass the baton to next year’s team.

The finalists recently formed 3 teams and came together at York Hall in London's Bethnal Green to showcase their final looks to a panel of judges.

Team 1 – Sophie Stevens (Southampton), Deborah Cullen (Liverpool Whitechapel), Madeline Mae Saunders (Valencia)

Team 2 – Katie Prescott (Canary Wharf), Casper Finch (Solihull), Timea Csereklye (South Kensington), Laura Everitt (Wolverhampton)

Team 3 – Binesh Purja (Teddington), Tania Faenza (Canary Wharf), Alessandro Gennusa (Hammersmith), Kirsty McNicol (Birmingham)

All participants displayed show stopping examples of expert colour, cutting and avant-garde work, however it was Team 2 that walked away with the coveted prize. “Each year we have 45-50 people apply to take part in the programme as it has a reputation for being a valuable stepping stone for career progression,” explained TONI&GUY International Artistic Director and label.m International Education Manager, Gary France. “After whittling it down to a small pool of candidates there is an interview process where they are required to demonstrate creativity that delivers ‘out of the box’ concepts. They need to provide evidence of things that they have done for themselves to further their careers.”

Not only did the evening celebrate the 2018 team’s achievements, but it also introduced us to the next Breakthrough Team Xtra generation: Massimo Verrengia (Sloane Square) Gabriele D’Avella (Islington) Caroline Gonzalez (Kensington) Ignas Dilys (Altringham)  Agne Nemeiksyte (Colchester) Lucia Gaeta (Curzon Street) Michaele Bazzoli (Long Achre) Tomer Nagar (Kensington) Matthew Darvill (Dorchester) Eloise Williams (North Audley Street) Elle Hadland (Stockton Heath) Gloria Dalla Benetta (Westfield White City)
