Calling All Summit Sprinters: Dare to Take the Stairs!

Tuesday, 22 January 2019 14:53

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity is calling on runners to sprint to the summit of one of London’s most recognisable landmarks, the Walkie Talkie building on Saturday 2 March to raise money for seriously ill children from across the UK treated at the hospital.

For the second year, GOSH charity is hosting a Tower Climb event at one of the tallest buildings in the City of London, 20 Fenchurch Street, affectionately known as the Walkie-Talkie building due to its distinctive shape. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in a fundraising challenge in the heart of the capital to support Great Ormond Street Hospital, climbing over 800 steps across 36 floors before being rewarded with spectacular 360-degree views of London in the vibrant Sky Garden, 160m above ground.

“We are thrilled to be hosting this Tower Climb event at the Walkie-Talkie Building,” commented Laura Savory, Head of Community Fundraising at Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. “We’re calling on the capital to get involved and sprint to the summit to raise money for a fantastic cause. Every step our Tower Climb heroes take and every penny they raise will make a real difference to children at Great Ormond Street Hospital.”

All participants will receive a complimentary race t-shirt, a well-deserved finishers’ medal and a celebratory refreshing drink at the top in the Sky Garden.

Money raised by those taking part in the Walkie-Talkie Tower Climb will go towards the hospital’s most urgent fundraising needs. These include pioneering research to find treatments for the most complex childhood illnesses, providing advanced equipment and supporting the refurbishment of the hospital to provide state-of-the-art facilities to match the hospital’s world-class care.

The event is proudly sponsored by Delta Air Lines and supported by Rothesay Life. Entry prices are £25 for adults and the event is open to anyone aged 16 years old and above.
