In a summer through which so many more people have come to appreciate the pleasures of being outdoors, the environmentally-aware team at Barnett & Belle in Poole, Dorset paid tribute to the beauty of our planet by staging a fundraiser to support the work of Greenpeace.

Instead of the party which had been planned, the team decided to put their heads together and do something a little different to mark the 3rd birthday of the salon.  Like the rest of her team, Liz Dunne, owner of the salon in Penn Hill Avenue, loved taking walks outside during the lockdown months and decided that raising funds for Greenpeace would be the best way to acknowledge the important part played by the great outdoors for so many people during a difficult time.

“Getting outside and enjoying the fabulous scenery on my doorstep had a profound effect on me and really lifted my mood," Liz explained. “As a vegan and eco hair salon owner, Greenpeace also reflects our ethos so we were determined to use our celebrations to raise funds for the charity.”

The salon’s ecological approach to business earned them one of the first ever Eco Salon awards from Good Salon Guide and a highly commended position in the Helping The Environment category of the National Hairdressers and Barbers Federation Hair and Beauty Community Awards 2019.

Two goody bags full of eco products from suppliers, Maria Nila and Organic Colour Systems were up for grabs for those buying a raffle ticket in salon or making a donation via the Go Fund Me page. There were also a selection of eco friendly household products from Bournemouth  based Coacoara Foundation. Liz added: “It was such a nice way to celebrate three years in business by doing something so positive for such a great charity. Our clients and friends were quick to support the fund raising and we would like to say thanks to them and the amazing product companies with whom we work for helping make this such a success.”
