New ghd Style Squad Announced for 2015-16

Thursday, 21 May 2015 10:46

Cult styling brand ghd has announced its style squad for 2015/16 after this year’s auditions for its dynamic young creative team attracted a record number of applications and intense competition for places.

ghd ‘style squad’ – now in its fourth year – is a group of hungry young stylists who are talented at styling, confident in presenting and big fans of the brand.  They enjoy twelve months of mentoring and involvement in a variety of ghd backstage and education projects and this year more than 200 stylists from across the UK applied, from which 32 were invited to audition over two days at ghd’s London studio in Soho.

The 2015 audition panel included former London Hairdresser of the Year and Fellowship Chancellor Karine Jackson, session stylist and ghd UK brand ambassador Zoe Irwin, multi-award winning salon owner and ghd education ambassador Ken Picton and former Fellowship FAME team member Leah Walton, from the ghd art team.

The new ghd style squad have an exciting year ahead of them which will include – for the first time – the opportunity to complete the new ghd styling graduate qualification.

Jo Robertson ghd Head of Education UK & ROI said: “We are committed to giving back to our industry and nurturing new talent and there’s nothing more rewarding for us than to watch it flourish.  In this industry it’s incredibly difficult to break through and we believe passionately in supporting new and emerging talent on the first part of their journey.”

What the judges said:

Zoe Irwin, session stylist and ghd brand ambassador

“I find this day particularly inspiring.  What I adored this year was the detail of the hair and how they had researched and pushed themselves. We are passionate about finding new emerging talent at ghd and this year’s style squad is going to be spectacular.”

Leah Walton, Technical Director of The Colour Room in Stockport:

“My favourite day of the year! The young talent never fails to amaze me; this year is going to be special!”

Ken Picton, multi-award winning salon owner and ghd education ambassador

“It was a fantastic day and the standard of work was superb, which made it very difficult for us.  I think we may have found some superstars of the future and I can’t wait to see them grow.”

Karine Jackson, former London Hairdresser of the Year and Fellowship Chancellor

“What a great day! I love to see the creative thought process that potential ‘squaddies’ present within their moodboards and then execute so well on the block heads. There is some fantastic young talent out there and it’s great to be supporting it through this exciting initiative.”
