Meet The ClubStar South Project Leader

Your role in The Fellowship
I am The ClubStar South Project Leader, which this involves organising incredible industry mentors for events that are tailored to inspiring young hairdressers aged 16-25.

What is your industry background
I studied hairdressing at college straight after finishing school and have since gone on to own a successful salon for the past 26 years; KJM Salons. I have been a member of The Colour Project Team, as well as being a Schwarzkopf Colour Master;  assisting at London Fashion weeks; and I have been nominated for Southern Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards three times. I am proud to say my team and I have just won Salon Team of the Year 2016 at the British Hairdressing Business Awards. I would also say I am an example that the learning process never stops and that there's always something new to find out.

What does being part of The Fellowship mean to you
Being in business on my own can sometimes be a challenge, for example employment laws or how other salons do things are areas that I always try to stay up to date on. The Fellowship is my extended family and I can go to them with any question or issue and they're give me solid unbiased advice and make me feel welcomed.  They also have so many events and people available to me that all of my, and my team's, training needs are always met.

Something many people don’t know about you
I was a gymnast when I was young and until very recently I could still do the splits. I can still do a handstand and a cartwheel though!

Take a look at for a full list of what is coming up

As our events continue to increase across the country it is going to be a busy year for past F.A.M.E.

My role in The Fellowship
I am the Project Leader for Project X, while also an active member on both Events Committee and Council. As Project Leader I will guide the candidates through a year long programme of education and mentor them in helping them to reach new heights and potential.

My industry background
I have been in the industry for over 30 years and I have been very much salon focused while establishing a strong commercial status. I have enjoyed a varied creative career, I am a Wella Professionals Guest Artist and that has led me to getting up on stage for numerous shows and educational seminars across Europe. I am now Co-owner of P.Kai Hair with my wife Jenny. we have three salons in Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. One of my most important roles outside of The Fellowship is being a Daddy to our two boys!

What does being part of The Fellowship mean to me
After joining the Fellowship some 14 years ago, I could not imagine life without The Fellowship. We joined three months after opening our first salon and we did the first Members Night which was a launching pad for us and led us to do our first presentation at Salon International. the Fellowship has helped put us on the map in the industry helping us to attract a higher calibre of employees and therefore increased our business growth.
We have made many lifelong industry friends through The Fellowship and the networking opportunities are fantastic.

Something people might not know about me
There’s probably a lot that many people don’t know about me... Photography has always been a passion of mine, I am self-taught and now shoot many collections for hairdressers and had a lot published and even front covers in consumer and trade publications. ….oh…I also like to go fishing!

Kai has organised a fantastic calendar for The Colour Project Team and you can find out more on
