Simone Rocha AW12

Tuesday, 24 April 2012 16:51

Inspired by the Irish travellers in new Ireland, old Ireland, a tribe in Papa New Guinea called 'New Irish' and Juergen Teller Zimmermann photographs.

Simone brought the audience an outstanding show, an interplay with religion and something empathetic with the times. Continuing her signature brogue, there was lots of lace and texture in white and black, mixing with some metallic leather and the odd flesh of yellow, completed with gleaming silver strips on blocky wooden heels.

To follow up with Simone's inspiration, James Pecis at D+V has created the hair just exactly what the collection needed. A backward plait with pony influences including forelock and corn row plait. Its traditional in some way but yet innovative

Firstly the hair was soaked with Surf Spray then blow-dried so to create a matte texture with a volume. Then the hair was sectioned from ear-to-ear, and plaited from the back in a long corn row so the plait sits on top of the hair. The top section of the hair was backcombed first then plaited back to meet the ends of the first plait. And the ends were doubled back and left to hang in the models eyes - to recreate a pony's forelock. No pins were being used in the whole styling, only the two plaits are sown together using elastic thread, so it can be pulled and manipulated later to get a street and traveller's feel. Finally Sumo Tech was used at the sides to give a sheen and finish the sides of the hair.
