Designer Holly Fulton at Fashion in Motion

Wednesday, 25 July 2018 14:02

This season he V&A invited London based designer Holly Fulton to present for Fashion in Motion. Jonathan Soons from Headmasters led the hair team in collaboration with L’Oréal Professionnel to create a ‘post party modern beehive’ hair look.

Holly showed highlights from the last ten years of the label, focusing on their six favourite seasons and restyling six key looks from each to show the evolution of their graphic signature since the label began in 2009. “I am honoured and delighted to be showing in partnership with the V&A for Fashion in Motion,” said Holly. “As an institution, the V&A holds special resonance from my days studying at the RCA, it was a bastion of culture and it offered me inspiration, and I frequently draw on history for ideas and excitement. It is therefore a great privilege to have a piece in the V&A archive.”

L’Oréal Professionnel has worked closely with the Fashion in Motion events since their inception and is always the hair partner of choice for the show. Jonathan Soons from Headmasters led the hair team. “First you have to change the fabric of the hair to make it weightless and pliable," explained Jonathan. “I used L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Scruff Me at the roots and worked it into the mid-lengths. We back- combed from back to front, from lengths to roots. Then we worked from the front to back in fine sections, ensuring hair was stiff at the roots. The top section was brought over to one side, and twisted into a knot and secured with pins. The shape was moulded to keep the height and sprayed with L’Oréal Professionnel Infinium Extreme Hold hair spray. The remaining lengths were tonged and worked with a little L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Density Material to look like the hair had melted, and look a little sweaty.”

The V&A’s Fashion in Motion series brings catwalk shows by some of the greatest designers of our time to the V&A and makes catwalk couture accessible to a wider audience, modelling it against the beautiful backdrop of the Museum.
