Hair Invasion Motivation! by Marco Chan

Thursday, 04 March 2021 11:18

Marco Chan is an Hong Kong-based stylist, colourist and owner of MarcoPro Artists - Hair & Makeup Artists Management who is embracing the challenges that this post-pandemic period is throwing up, by inviting fellow hair professional around the world to take part in his Instagram "Hair Invasion"!

"In a creative business such as our business, we have a thirst to be inspired in order to fuel our creativity," says Marco. "A tried and tested way to do this is to take inspiration from the looks off the catwalk and recreating them into wearable alternatives for our clients. However, the essence is how to evolve your ideas and interpret them into reality?

"As we've emerged into 2021 and hopefully waving goodbye to the horrors of the pandemic in the process, I’ve been starting a new online campaign on Instagram called “Hair Invasion”. I've been using my expertise and experience to help keep other hairdresser motivated by completing a 3-day hair video challenge. I've been using my global connections to extend the initiative as far afield as London, Singapore and Taiwan: creativity unites the world!"

In being able to to promote his new campaign in the professional hair press, including a column in Estetica China,  Marco has been able to team up with new talents, to explore new ideas from a different mindset.

Blunt edges may be on the way out, cutting trends have been toward one length cuts and heavy bobs but it’s time for shape and movement again. We’re heading towards “going back to having layers through the hair, layers that are subtle and give the hair a more lived-in look or even stronger, even bigger with discotheque vibe.

Balayage and blonde have reigned supreme for years, but when it comes to caramel colour in 2021, it’s all about achieving “holiday hair”.

Overall colour trends have become more refined and polished and more about the craft and placement of colour, rather than one solid shade only.

Going Off-Centre

Fashion has long embraced the middle part like Louis Vuitton & Burberry, that may have taken most of our attention, but there were also some looks with side parts that stood out to us. I predict a deep side part will be trending in the springtime.
