Westrow Style Leeds Uni "Rag Week"

Tuesday, 18 March 2014 15:38

25 Westrow stylists from across its eight salon group worked backstage at Leeds University’s event space, The Refectory, to craft on-trend locks for over 60 models at the annual University RAG (Raising and Giving) Fashion show: Wanderlust.

Organised by a truly talented team from within Leeds University Union’s fund raising society, the event, now in its tenth year, is considered the social highlight in the student calendar. With the aim of raising much-needed funds for notable local charities, the event profiles the latest trends from independent clothing retailers and established up and coming designers from the city.

Backstage, 25 session stylists from Yorkshire based salon group, Westrow, were on hand to ensure all 62 models were styled to perfection. Westrow were tasked in creating a total of eight distinctive styles throughout the event, including ‘Amazonian Wild’ and ‘Burnt Earth’ with stylists using a selection of products from the Sexy Hair styling range to carefully craft their looks.

Four sub-teams of five stylists were headed up by senior stylists from each of Westrow’s eight salons and overseen by Artistic Team members, Matthew Sutcliffe and Carly Aplin. Hair was skilfully crafted into loose waves and random plaits, before being backcombed for a 60s vibe, crimped, secured into sleek, high ponytails, and woven intricately with gold thread.

The show was a scintillating success and raised in the region of £15,000 for Leeds charities ‘SUDEP Action’ (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy), which focuses on increasing awareness and helping those affected by the condition; and ‘SARSVL’ (Support After Rape & Sexual Violence Leeds), a group dedicated to supporting victims of sexual violence.

Westrow Director Steve Rowbottom commented: “The Westrow Artistic Team had an amazing time working at the Leeds RAG Fashion show, which provided a fantastic platform for stylists to gain invaluable experience in session styling and an insight into the busy, backstage world of hairdressing. We look forward to collaborating with the brand again next year.”
