ghd Team Take Starring Role at Australian Fashion Week

Here's a beautiful gallery of looks courtesy of ghd Australia, who worked backstage at Australian Fashion Week.

Jayne Wild (formerly Australia Hairdresser of the Year), Alan White, Sophie Roberts, Robert Bava and Tracy Hughes created a series of looks to complement no less than nine designer collections.

The Toni Maticevski collection this season maintains Toni’s sense of romance, based around the concept of a woman as an orchid. The romantic, sports tailored collection encompasses frosted whites and rich opulent blacks, contrasted with pops of orchid inspired pink and orange accents.

Nautical tones and references adorned Christopher Esber’s SS14 collection, which paid homage to the working women of the sea. Colours were navy and neutrals on beautifully cut, feminine yet modern, sheer shaped silhouettes. The hair reflects the style of the collection - it’s soft and healthy with a slight natural bend through the mid lengths.

A cooler, edgier Alex Perry woman took to the runway for the designer’s SS collection, rocking glitter, cut-outs and short trumpet skirts which were a new twist on the classic Alex Perry glam. Stealing the show was Victoria’s Secret Angel and supermodel, Alessandra Ambrosio, who had Australia’s fashion elite clamouring for a front row seat at the packed out show.

The iconic Icebergs restaurant in Sydney was transformed into a seaside runway to showcase Ellery’s OPAQUE collection full of raw shapes, tactile textures and monochromatic tones. The Ellery girl this year is beautiful with a raw boyish feel. The hair has a natural and real texture with volume and body, the top section of hair is disconnected from the rest by adding a fringe piece in a slightly different colour.

A collection of mystical soft colour palettes and strong structured shapes graced the runway for Leroy Nguyen’s Fashion Week debut, entitled ‘Blue Rose’. The hair look juxtaposed a strong structural shape with feminine softness, using wet tendrils around the face. It was a little sculptural sport, with a whimsical touch.

A modern army of nomadic beauties took to the concrete catwalk for Bec & Bridge’s ‘Due North’ collection. Effortless and ethereal, loose shapes contrasted with constructed shapes in artisan inspired shades of the everyday traveller. Alan has created a look that the Bec & Bridge girl can wear and recreate herself, encouraging movement through the ends, keeping it airy with a deep side part for a touch of structure – the hair is sophisticated yet soft, designed to perfectly emulate the collection.

50’s Americana invaded the runway for Hayley Elsaesser’s debut SS14 ‘Redneck Nostalgia’ collection. Boxy jackets and trumpet skirts were complimented by sleek swimwear silhouettes in pastel pop shades and kitsch beer prints.

True to form, Emma Mulholland’s SS14 collection was a showcase of kaleidoscopic colour, quirky and fun, as models danced down the runway to Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5’. Stationery inspired prints offset beach ready shapes and must-have accessories.

Vibrant and emotive prints in rich colours moved in a meditative state throughout the Desert Designs show as top Australian model Samantha Harris lead a cast of male and female models through a set styled of crystals, symbolic of the universal sacredness of water.
